San Francisco Bay Area's

Hall of Heroes

he·ro n. — one who does more than their position asks, at cost to themselves, to the real and lasting good of the people of San Francisco.

What earns a name here is making the experience and the possibilities of the Bay Area richer, in all the ways a place can be richer, for the people who live in it. A Nobel Prize won at Berkeley belongs to the laureate, while a park carved from an abandoned cliff belongs to the city. Names are weighed by how much they enriched this place, by how freely they acted when nothing demanded or repaid it, and by the sacrifice and perseverance the work asked.
